Weekly Conference with TA and Student Teacher
The Teaching Assistant and his or her student teacher(s) meet once a week outside of seminar for prompt feedback on Saturday’s teaching performance. Arrange a week day conference time that is consistent. The conference is critical for consistent communication and learning. E-mail is not enough. Meet face to face at least an hour after teaching on Saturday or another day before Wednesday seminar.During the conference:
- Discuss evaluation of Saturday session.
- TAs should have their evaluation form completed and student teachers should have a self-evaluation form completed. Concentrate on four areas: preparation, instruction, classroom management, and professionalism.
- TAs should assist and advise student teachers on identification of resources, motivational strategies, management, grade level appropriate practice, and other concerns.
- Set long term and short term goals.
- Student teachers bring current lesson plan for the next Saturday School session and a list of questions for the TA about the upcoming lesson.
- All evaluation forms go into the student teacher’s permanent ISBE folder each week. The Saturday School Coordinator reads them to monitor student progress.
